The two principals each had thirty years' experience separately before creating a joint practice in 1989. The earlier work can be seen in individual pages under the two separate names.

The Royal Opera House, National Portrait Gallery and Venice Bus Station projects are treated as introductory material, otherwise the projects are in chronological order using completion dates.

The work of the practice is diverse, not seeking a common architectural language, a position well described by Peter Smithson as ‘a style for the project rather than a style for the Practice’. Jeremy and Edward jointly have a preoccupation with urbanism, particularly as it relates to London.

The joint practice ended in 2020.
